En la presente publicación ofrecemos datos básicos para iniciar una pequeña empresa o para mejorar su crianza. Este manual pretende ser un instrumento que permita conocer los elementos básicos y técnicos de la crianza avícola; está dirigida a todos aquellos que ya conducen una explotación, con lo cual podrán evaluar y mejorar su producción, logrando así mejores resultados económicos. Las técnicas para la crianza de aves palmípedas, en la actualidad, ha ido cambiando de manera importante con el mejoramiento de líneas genéticas, lo que ha traído como consecuencia el establecimiento de sistemas intensivos durante toda la etapa productiva. Sin embargo, puede ser una actividad simple, siempre y cuando se les suministre a los animales los requerimientos nutricionales y de manejo, acordes con su capacidad productiva y con los recursos técnicos adecuados.
